January 2011 sees the release of left-coast multimedia outfit
Architects and Heroes' first formal injunction -- the twelve track, genre-defying
A+H Sampler Vol. 1.

Los Angeles, CA - January 6, 2011 - Architects and Heroes emerged in 2007 as a music/culture blog of Los Angeles-based DJ and producer Stephen Ruiz. Ruiz began his music career in the late Nineties, inspired by the electronic scene of California's
Bay Area. Moving in the same circles with tech-minded collectives responsible for pushing the boundaries of electronic music, Ruiz founded his first experimental club night entitled “Under the Radar.” He has performed with some of the biggest names from the
era, including Kool Keith, Jeff Parker of Tortoise, Peaches, Kid606, Richard Devine, and Gold Chains.

Together with Web Designer H.A. Eugene and Graphic Designer William Rosario, of San Francisco and Los Angeles respectively, Stephen and company set out to develop a label concept that would unite the distinct musical personalities of William’s Asymmetrical Head, Eugene's Burbank International and Business 80 aliases, and Stephen's Zygote, DJ Stephen R. and Summer of Flux projects without sacrificing integrity or artistry. Based on the label models other highly-curated, artist-run entities such as Underground
Resistance, Soul Jazz, Merck, Raster-Noton, Hyperdub, Planet Mu, etc., Architects and Heroes aims to conflate the egalitarianism of the DIY/punk/techno ethos with artistic possibility and international scope the digital age affords.

Architects and Heroes is an artist-run label/art collective intent on offering a fully developed multimedia experience in a post-consumer, post-genre landscape. With a packed release schedule (including digital, vinyl, cassette and compact disc formats),
a number of select West Coast events, and an evolving series of features on the blog/website, Architects and Heroes seeks to blur the line between form and function.
